About the role
Joining an established and growing tax department, the Tax Senior will take responsibility for a portfolio of personal tax clients while handling increasingly complex and interesting assignments.
Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing and reviewing personal tax and Making Tax Digital (MTD) returns with minimal supervision
  • Managing a portfolio and acting as a key day-to-day contact for clients
  • Preparing, reviewing and submitting P11Ds
  • Calculating benefits in kind and employer Class 1A NICs
  • Producing accurate income tax and capital gains tax computations
  • Identifying tax planning opportunities
  • Handling inheritance tax, capital gains and non-resident matters
  • Liaising directly with clients and resolving queries
  • Dealing with HMRC correspondence, enquiries and disclosures
  • Reviewing junior team members’ work and providing guidance
  • Managing workflow and deadlines across the client portfolio
  • There is also scope to continue developing professional knowledge and qualifications, including ATT, CTA and ACA.

What we are looking for
The successful Tax Senior will ideally offer:

  • At least three years’ experience in personal tax
  • Strong personal tax compliance knowledge

  • Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel

General Ledger Accountant – 6 Month Fixed-Term Contract We are looking for an experienced General Ledger Accountant to join a small, collaborative finance team.

This is a hands-on role with responsibility for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, supporting month-end and year-end close, and ensuring key balance sheet accounts are reconciled and maintained. You will also provide support across Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger when required.
Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post monthly journals, including accruals, prepayments, depreciation and other accounting adjustments.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger.
  • Complete monthly balance sheet and intercompany reconciliations, investigating and resolving outstanding items.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and process depreciation and amortisation.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Assist with management accounts and financial reporting.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and cash flow reporting as required.
  • Complete daily and monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Support tax, VAT and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Provide support across Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including supplier invoices, payment runs, customer receipts and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with finance process improvements and ad hoc projects.

Skills & Experience Essential:

  • Previous experience in a General Ledger, Management Accountant, Assistant Finance Manager or similar accounting role.
  • Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Experience preparing accruals, prepayments, journals and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Experience supporting month-end close.
  • Experience across both Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management skills.

Desirable:

  • Part-qualified or qualified AAT, ACCA, CIMA or ACA.
  • Previous experience supporting audit preparation.

About the Role
An immediate opportunity is available for a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to support a busy finance function. This is a hands-on temporary role. You will be involved in all aspects of day-to-day finance while gaining valuable experience in a growing environment.
 
Key Responsibilities
 

  • Process accounts receivable, including raising invoices, maintaining pupil fee accounts, allocating receipts, resolving account queries and monitoring outstanding balances.
  • Manage credit control by issuing payment reminders, liaising with parents and customers regarding overdue accounts, maintaining collection records and escalating issues where appropriate.
  • Process accounts payable, including supplier invoices, payment runs, supplier statement reconciliations and responding to supplier queries.
  • Prepare the school’s two annual fee billing runs and raise invoices for additional services, ensuring all charges are accurate and appropriately authorised.
  • Carry out bank, sales ledger, purchase ledger and balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies as required.
  • Maintain accurate financial records, process cash and electronic payments, support month-end, year-end and audit activities, and ensure compliance with school financial procedures.
  • Provide professional customer service to parents, staff and suppliers, support continuous improvement within the Finance Department, and undertake other duties as requested by the Finance Manager or Bursar.

 
Working Arrangements

  • Full-time, on-site role based in Bodiam
  • This is a standalone position within a small team (no cover during leave)
  • Due to location, a driving licence and access to a car is highly recommended
